Our work is of a wide spectrum and encompasses traditional conversion and renovation of listed vernacular buildings (requiring a sensitive approach and close liaison with the Local Authority), new build houses, larger domestic extensions particularly to period property, traditional barn conversions, and also our own bespoke development. We work within a sensible travelling time for our operatives, which is up to an hour from our premises. Our work generally ranges between £25,000 and £500,000 in value with the optimum around the £250,000 region. We have the proper administration facilities and financial resources to carry out works in advance of this upper limit and have done in the past when an attractive project has presented itself. Our gross turnover typically is between £2.5 to £3 million per annum

	About Us Company Structure and Work Philosophy In 1973 Hugh and Pam Lewis began trading as general builders which also incorporated a small joinery workshop. Most of their work in the early years was for the farming community, they became a limited company in 1981 and began trading as H.B. Lewis & Sons Ltd. Hugh and Pam are still Directors of the company but the day to day running of the company is carried out by their son Mark supported by a competent and dedicated team of staff. Projects are supervised by a combination of contracts managers and foremen. The majority of tradespersons working on our projects are directly employed which means we do not rely heavily on sub contractors and can easily control the progress of work and perhaps most importantly the quality of workmanship.

	The cost control of the projects we undertake is dealt with by the Contract Manager, this means Client, Architect and Quantity Surveyor have one point of contact with the company for all elements of the work. With our flexible and professional approach to business we are able to work with a certain degree of autonomy and very often this is appreciated by Clients who can develop a day to day relationship with our Contracts Manager and also by their Architect who for geographical reasons may not be able to visit the project as often as they would like. We have also been entrusted to carry out works where the Client is not resident in the U.K. for long periods of time. We employ a high percentage of our own direct labour who are generally time served craftsmen and have been with the company for some years or have progressed through our active apprenticeship scheme. We have recently taken on further apprentices, which for a company of our size is admirable and reinforces our philosophy of maintaining our high standards of workmanship and customer satisfaction.

	Our fully equipped joinery shop specialises in purpose made joinery in hardwood or softwood either designed by ourselves or to architect's drawings. We are pleased to manufacture joinery for other building and developing companies to their specification. Much of our work in recent years has been in English and European oak.
